Bandcamp is an ever-expanding universe that spans all manner of musical and sound expression, but one particularly playful corner is reserved for the young at heart: kids’ music.

Although many famous musicians have dipped their toes in children’s music for an album or two (They Might Be Giants come immediately to mind), there is a rich array of independent artists on Bandcamp using the platform to upload music specifically created for enjoyment by youngsters—much of it happens to be great listening for adults, too.

Just like music for grown-ups, kids’ music on Bandcamp is diverse and wildly creative, ranging from rock ‘n’ roll ABCs and bilingual folk songs to lullabies for infants and narrative sing-a-longs that use handclaps and call-and-response to encourage interaction from the little ones. It’s also stylistically diverse; you’ll hear everything from Americana and jazz to pop to “kindie” rock, sometimes within the…

See You Soon San Francisco

Hello dear friends! You may have noticed that it has been very quiet over here at KK Music Headquarters for quite some time now. That is because I have just completed a huge and lengthy transition of moving from San Francisco to a small town in Santa Barbara County. With so much going on plus a lot of uncertainty and stress, it was difficult for me to focus on sharing my music with my wonderful fans. But my guitar is finally out of it’s case and it’s time to start rockin’!

I’m looking forward to sharing my adventures in SB County as I explore the area and hopefully find lots of inspiration for new songs! In the meantime I would like to say a huge thank you to all my friends and fans in the Bay Area for your support over the years. I have had the most fun performing Obstacle Course all over the Bay Area and rockin’ out with your little ones.

I have shared this video before but it seems appropriate to share again with it’s San Francisco theme. I love you SF! I definitely left a piece of my heart with you. Keep rockin’ and see you soon.

CD Release Party at Glammic

The release date for my album is quickly approaching – just two weeks away! On August 5, 2014 I will finally be able to share Obstacle Course with the world! I’m excited but also feel myself holding back a bit. I guess I won’t be able to truly celebrate until the release date is here.

Obstacle Course was a true labor of love. Every song on the album was written for my son and inspired by my experiences as a first time parent. Most of the songs were written while my son napped (sleep when the baby sleeps? Ha!) or in the wee hours of the night after he’d gone to bed. Between colds, fevers, potty training, searching for preschools, and my full time job; I seriously have no idea how I found time to record. But I did it! There were many bumps along the way; bumps which actually caused me to question my choice to name the album Obstacle Course. I kept running into, well… obstacles. Was this life imitating art? I don’t know for sure but I do know that my next album will be titled Easy Street or Smooth Sailing or something of that nature.

I did get past all the obstacles and the album is complete! I have held it in my hands and it is beautiful! It will be released on August 5, 2014 via most major digital music sellers (iTunes, Cd Baby, Amazon, etc.)  Physical copies can be purchased online via Cd Baby and Bandcamp, or directly from me at my CD Release party!

So let’s talk about the party! August 10, 2014 I am celebrating the release of Obstacle Course at my favorite children’s store Glammic! Glammic is a colorful and unique children’s store located at 1488 Vallejo Street in San Francisco. Glammic’s main product is their trademarked ShirtCape; a colorful shirt with a built in cape. Glammic customizes the shirts right in their SF store where they also make all kinds of wonderful and imaginative clothing like tutus, funky hats, and the most gorgeous Halloween costumes I’ve ever seen. I buy all my gifts for new babies and toddler birthdays at Glammic. Glammic also carries a great selection of children’s toys and stuffed animals and now Glammic also carries children’s music! My music!

I’m so excited for my CD release party at Glammic. The party is from 12 noon – 4:00 pm and I will be playing music all day long.  I will play the songs from Obstacle Course twice; once at 12 noon and an encore performance at 3:00 pm.  In between the album sets I will play family friendly rock ‘n’ roll covers and also some classic children’s songs. We will be serving refreshments and tasty treats from Fresh Baby Bites. If you are in the area make sure to stop by this fun, family friendly event!

Thanks for your support!

Debut Album Coming Soon

I’ve been keeping quiet about my album because it has been taking much longer to complete than I originally anticipated. I am getting close to finishing so…it’s finally time to start spreading the news!

I am excited to announce and share a preview of my debut family music album, Obstacle Course!

Please stay tuned for album updates!

Family Friendly Rock ‘n’ Roll

I am working on a new project…children’s music!

I will be going into the studio soon to record some songs for my debut children’s music album! I will post album updates and information on upcoming shows here. I will also share a little behind the scenes insight on my songwriting and songwriting inspiration: stories about my son and our adventures. I am brand new to children’s music so I’ll share my findings as I explore the “kindie” scene.  There seems to be a lot going on in the world of children’s music and I can’t wait to dive in.
